The unemployment rate for formerly incarcerated people is an estimated 27 percent — more than five times the overall national rate. An additional 600,000 people are released each year from prison. As part of commitment to advancing a more inclusive economy, we are committed to giving people with criminal backgrounds across the U.S. a Second Chance by supporting their re-entry into the workforce, community and local economies. As a part of our Second Chance efforts, we’re hosting expungement clinics in our community branches to help people with a conviction or arrest record begin the process of clearing it, making philanthropic commitments that support job training, upskilling and certifications, and real-world experiences, and “banned the box”, removing the question about criminal backgrounds from job applications.
